Birdy Bungalow
Conceived as a bird feeder, the piece was proposed of three distinct feeding zones, each nestled beneath an extruded reed canopy, and each compromising of a different type of seed. The form aimed to seamlessly integrate into the natural environment with its bamboo exterior and organic form.
Material limitation, however, disrupted its intention. Attempting to puncture an access hole from the exterior to interior ultimately led to the splintering of the facade. Rather than forcing a resolution, I chose to keep the "Bird Feeder" part of the project as a conceptual component.
The projects fragility was a turning points. Utilizing Rhino and Illustrator, I translated the tangible bird feeder into a digital scale model, which I exploded into a digital rendering. Each component was broken down it to its substructure, allowing analyzation of this complex feeder, the loss of one structural component would cause a fault in its function. By shifting from physical fabrication to digital representation, the project evolved into a study of fragility and material composition.
